Inspiration

Red series is inspired by Zhou’s childhood. He shows in his works what he still remembers. The monochromatic painting depicts a scene of the old era with chairman Mao Zedong, cherishing youth’s memory. “ We were poor but we were happy” explains Mr. Zhou. The painting technic is blurry just like a memory could be.

zhou-qi-mao-loves-art-painter-red-series

Zhou QI was born in 1961 in the Heilongjiang Province, and as a young kid, he experienced the old days, the red flags, the parades and the Communist propaganda posters and billboards. He shows in his works what he still remembers, his memories. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in 1987.  In 2008 Mr. Zhou QI started a series of monochromatic paintings called the RED series. Each painting depicts a memory scene of the old era with chairman Mao Zedong, cherishing youth’s memory. “ We were poor but we were happy” explains Mr. Zhou. He currently lives and works in Beijing. He mostly exhibits in China, Korea and Taiwan.
